How to Set Parental Controls on Safari

Parental Controls: Custom Filter

Parental Controls are the preeminent feature of Safari. Safari can work with parental controls in Mac OS X to quickly review websites before they load to determine if they’re suitable for kids.

If deemed unsuitable, Mac OS X blocks them from view. You can further protect children from potentially inappropriate web content by adding sites to the Never Allow list in Parental Controls in System Preferences.

Set Parental Controls

Setting the parental controls on Safari is a great way to ensure that your children are safe and protected while using the Internet.

Step 1. Click Preferences.

After you've opened up your Safari for Mac, you can go to your computer's System Preferences window and choose 'Accounts' from the available options.

Step 2. Set Parental Controls.

Change Account

After you come to Account window, click on the padlock icon in the bottom left hand corner of the window in order to allow changes to your account.

Type in your administrator username and password in order to unlock your preferences.

Choose the account you would like to modify from the list of users and click on it. This will bring up a list of the programs on your computer that can be configured.

Set Configure

Put a check in the box next to the Safari icon and Click on the 'Configure' button to the right of the icon and press 'OK' when asked if you want to open Safari.

Type in a Web address for a site that you want to allow your child to visit. Although it won't display the page, Safari will ask you if you want to add this page to your child's bookmarks bar. Click on 'Add Web site' to set the link.

Now, you have finished setting Parental Controls. You can allow your children to surf on the Internet.
