Text messaging, instant messaging, and VoIP are all pretty hot ways to communicate these days.
Skype and Sightspeed both are pretty cool, are skinnable, and support a number of other clients including MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, and several others. So it's easy to consolidate all of your Instant Messages accounts.
We make a test call using Skype Video and SightSpeed. As was our previous experience, the video on SightSpeed blew away Skype. Even the audio sounded better on SightSpeed! But the new version of Skype improve the sound and video effects.
While Skype keeps introducing new versions that essentially tweak the UI and focus on the Windows client, SightSpeed releases new versions on both Mac and Windows that improve actual functionality. Also, SightSpeed's management actually understands and works with bloggers unlike Skype, who seems to ignore them. Now Skype for Mac 2.8 has released and it is popular with most of Mac users.
The two video calling tool both are excellent, you can choose one of them or two to use.

Skype, the solid chat, VoIP, and videocam software has been around for awhile now on the Mac and we have already sung its praises for its free computer-to-computer long distance. Call clarity has always been quite good and if you have one of many available USB handsets, you know it's just like talking on a regular phone."
