VLC Media Player is a kind of powerful and versatile multimedia player, you can use it easily.

VLC Media Player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can work on most of platforms(Windows,Linux, Mac OS X, BeOS, BSD, Solaris, ...). It doesn't need any external codec or program to work.

Steps

The following are the simple steps of making VLC my default media player.

Step1. Select the file you want to paly, right-click and move the Mouse to let the cursor on Open With, then move to Select Program and click it.

Step2. In the interface of Open With, you select the icon of VLC.

step3. Mark the "always use the selected program to open files", then click OK.

This will set the default player for this kind of files only. So you might need to do it for other type of files.
