XaoS 3.4
A fast interactive real-time fractal zoomer and morpher XaoS is a fast portable real-time interactive fractal zoomer. XaoS displays the Mandelbrot set (among other escape time fractals) and allows you to zoom smoothly into the fractal. XaoS provides various coloring modes for both the points inside and outside the selected set. XaoS also provides switching between Julia and Mandelbrot fractal types and on-the-fly. The first version of XaoS was a minimal X Window Mandelbrot viewer by Thomas which was modified by Jan later to support high frame-rate zooming. Other additions were later made by both Thomas and Jan including autopilot (for those of you without drivers licenses), palette changing, PNG saving and fractal inversion. Main features of XaoS:
Fast smooth interactive real-time zooming: Even on 486! XaoS works with a special algorithm which makes zooming incredible fast up to to 64051194700380384 times and unzooming more than 1267966761981568116729735090176 times.
13 fractal formulas: Including the Mandelbrot set (power 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6), the Octo fractal, two types of Barnsley's fractals, the Newton fractal (order 3 and 4), Phoenix and Magnet (1 and 2). Both Mandelbrot and Julia forms can be displayed. Fast Julia preview!
Enhanced user interface: Autopilot, real-time image rotation. Dynamic resolution.
Saving/restoring facilities: PNG, position and animation saving/restoring.
Detailed documentation: A detailed documentation is available for absolute beginners. A must reading for everybody who deals with fractals! In addition, more than 50 examples are included in the standard package.
Multiple language support: The tutorials are available in English, French, Czech, German, Spanish and Hungarian languages.
Colorizations: 10 outcoloring modes + 10 incoloring modes are available with 10 additional true-color coloring modes. Color cycling. Three different algorithms for random palettes. 8 bpp, hicolor, realcolor, black & white and truecolor (24 or 32 bpp) support. Dithering on devices w/o user defined palette.
Fast calculations: Boundary detection, solid guessing, periodicity checking, unrolled calculation loops are built-in for the highest available speed. SMP support.
Post calculation filters: Motion blur. Random dot stereograms in animation. Interlace filter. Two types of edge detection filters. Starfield generator. Emboss. Palette emulation filter.

This is a huge release for Mac users. The Mac user interface has been completely rewritten in Cocoa and improved in a number of ways:
Standard Aqua dialog boxes instead of the strange-looking Unixy things in previous versions. Fields in dialog boxes now support cut and paste as you would expect.
Pop-up menus are now displayed using standard Aqua menus
Menu bar in full-screen mode is now the standard Mac OS X menu bar. It automatically slides intview when you move your mouse tthe top of the screen and slides out when you move away from it.
XaoS now has a standard Aqua about dialog box, which displays links tlicense and credits in help file.
Help is now displayed via Mac OS X's standard help viewer. Tutorials can still be launched via links in the help viewer.
Support for opening xpf (Saved Position) and xaf (Saved Animation) files directly from Finder via drag and drop and by double-clicking. XaoS now includes its own document icon for these files as well.
Support for basic AppleScriptability via the standard script dictionary. Includes things like opening files and manipulating the window, but nXaoS-specific functionality.
Support for panning the fractal with the mouse scroll wheel or trackpad two-finger gestures.
In addition tthe user interface improvements, XaoS for Mac has the following improvements:
Now uses greater precision (long double) for calculations tenable much deeper zooms.
In addition tEnglish, XaoS for Mac OS X now supports the following languages: Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Romanian, and Spanish.
Integration with Stone Design's Videator (http://stone.com/Videator/). XaoS can now send live a live videstream tVideator, which can then dpost-processing using Mac OS X's core videtechnology. Edge Detection and Pseud3D filters now work correctly. Fixed a bug that previously caused them trender the image completely black.
